Das Lied von der Erde

October 20, 20.00 - 20.00

Opéra de Dijon, l’auditorium, Dijon, France

Welcome to the anthropo(s)cene! Philippe Quesne presents his vision in one of those scenic panoramas of which he has the secret, and which have made his international reputation. Mahler’s great symphonic cycle, performed here by the Klangforum Wien under the baton of Emilio Pomàrico, well known in Dijon, inspired him to write a vibrant meditation on the future of our planet… If it is true that the Earth sings, who is listening to it? Gustav Mahler, in order to hear it better, isolated himself in 1908, with no other company than an anthology of classical Chinese poems. For a whole summer, he gave himself over to his inspiration, weaving together in six movements the journey of a lyrical voice supported by the deep currents of the symphony. Inner and intimate landscapes respond to and reflect each other in a magnificent score, designed to stimulate Philippe Quesne’s reverie: the founder of the Vivarium Studio has always been interested in the interaction between bodies and their environment, inventing unique spaces for their dialogue, veritable ecosystems for performers, which he now presents throughout the world. His new creation is steeped in Mahlerian sublimity in a chamber version by Reinbert de Leeuw, performed by one of the greatest orchestras in contemporary repertoire.
