Xenakis’ Ballet Music: Kraanerg
The Greek composer Iannis Xenakis was one of the most important musical avant-gardists of the second half of the 20th century. His work Kraanerg was originally intended as a ballet and is divided into numerous segments, which are interrupted by general pauses. The title is derived from the Greek fantasy word “Kraanerg”, which according to Xenakis alludes to the rebellious youth movement of the 1960s.
