Know-How

The rehearsal room of the Klangforum Wien is located in the 5th district of Vienna, a district away from the established cultural scene, with a wealth of different cultures and talents, in which social exclusions quickly become visible. Diversity, dialogue and reflection characterize the work of the 24 musicians from ten different countries who rehearse, discuss and conceive here every day. Out of the artist collective’s need to make their work accessible to the broadest possible audience and thus to integrate new music sustainably into the musical life of the city and its residents, numerous mediation projects have emerged over the course of more than 20 years.

In its Klangforum Know-How program, the ensemble focuses primarily on long-term partnerships and encounters between different cultures. In addition to composition and interpretation workshops, rehearsals and introductions to works are offered for children and young people. Through the special training in Performance Practice in Contemporary Music as part of its professorship at the Art University Graz, the Klangforum ensures that its knowledge is passed on to the younger generation of musicians.
