In the Whirl of Time: Messiaen and his Students
Last year, Klangforum Wien already cast a sonic spell over the audience of the Lausitz Festival. This year, the ensemble returns to present a programme dedicated to Messiaen’s legacy. Here, the voice of Olivier Messiaen, like an echo of past Impressionism, meets the spectral music of Tristan Murail, which he inspired, and finally the work of his student George Benjamin, who musically combines complex architecture with sensual beauty. Messiaen’s contemporary Gérard Grisey also describes a turning point in time with “Vortex Temporum” (In the Whirl of Time).
